Pop culture reviews--mostly spoiler-free

k2daisyBeen watching a lot of different TV stuff lately.
1. PeeWee as Himself, the Paul Reubens documentary. Loved it. Paul Reubens was a driving force of the documentary, giving them so much footage of his early years, and being an absolutely honest and funny dick in his interviews.
2. For All Mankind on AppleTV: doing a rewatch to get ready for the new season. The storylines really go so off the historical path by the 3rd season, but I still enjoy the ride. Boy, the deaths do pile up, though.
3. The Bear season 4. Richie remains my favorite character ever since Forks, and that held true all this season too. My spoiler-free reaction to the finale was that entire episode felt like a play. Powerful stuff.
4. Yellowjackets. That one I watched in Florida. Creepy and sad and gross but it stayed with me for a long time.
5. We Were Liars on Prime. I don't read or watch much YA, and this reminded me why: the overwrought FEELINGS teenagers have about everything is a lot to take. That said, I loved the island and the houses that all felt very New England summery, and the stories of the cousins Johnny and Mirran were more compelling than Cady, the main character. Plus I love everything Mamie Gummar does.
6. Somebody Feed Phil. Love when he goes to middle European countries the best, like Croatia etc. But mostly this show all blurs together in a delicious, generous lump.
7. Harper and Me, the documentary of Will Ferrell and his longtime writer friend who transitioned to a trans female late in life. They road trip together, and their honesty and kindness and humor is just wonderful to watch. I have never been a big Will Ferrell fan -- his humor doesn't hit my funny bone -- so he was a revelation to me in this. He so wants to do the right thing for his friend, and often doesn't know what that should be. His friend doesn't know either. I just loved this.
8. Working on the Billy Joel documentary.
9. My Mom Jayne, the documentary from Mariska Hargitay. Really honest and touching. Lots of stuff we didn't know about a very famous woman. Both mother and daughter, really.
10. A bunch of old rom-coms: He's Not That Into You, The Proposal, Baby Boom, 9 to 5.
11. My Old Ass on Prime. Aubrey Plaza and the little girl from Nashville, now grown up. Touching movie with a little time travel, but mostly about appreciating those last moments of family life before leaving for college.
12. A Simple Favor, and Another Simple Favor. Glamorous and twisted fun. Never really watched much Blake Lively before; I like her more than I thought I would.
