bored with the internet
Been feeling restless online, like I can't find enough conversations about topics I want to read/talk about. So I added Substack and Reddit to my daily haunts. Substack because I miss the political interaction of old Twitter, and damnit I finally had to subscribe to The Bulwark. I appreciate their perspective and willingness to say what they think more than any other small-scale journalism company out there right now. I also like that they have hired a lot of good, real journalists so I can get detailed stories about immigration and the economy besides just political hot-takes.
Reddit is pretty easy to navigate and find silly and/or interesting pop culture takes. Especially the TV parts -- reminds me of the TWOP forums, back in the day. I watch a lot of stuff no one else I know does so it's nice to have strangers to chat with about stuff like For All Mankind or We Were Liars, or the absolutely tragic and unexpected mental health breakdown Kelley Wolf from Real World is having live on Instagram.
In stuff I do know other DW people watch, Severance season 2 is a very hard watch.
Jessie was right, I needed to put down my phone and pay attention to follow it better, so I started from the beginning of the season sans phone. The outie Mark and Gemma stories are hitting me in my rawest spots. But just the sadness of everyone's stories is a lot to take. I am almost relieved when it is a Helena scene because at least she is not drowning in sorrow or uncertainty.
I am half way through episode 9. Will see if I finish tonight.
My one big task today is supposed to be: clean shower, let it dry, re-grout shower.
I think you can imagine how much I do not want to do that.

It's been really shocking because it's all happened in maybe the last 1-2 months. Before that, her IG was very happy-influencer-wellness coach. Then one day she accidentally started a live video, but she was being handcuffed by deputies in her home and being taken into a mental hospital. Her voice and her attitude was completely different than I had seen her on RW and the RW Homecoming. Cold and hard and angry. I was so shocked!

I think the further fracturing of tv and streaming and social media has resulted in a lot of solo watching. It's rarer and rarer to watch a show "with" your friends, even your online friends. It's kind of a bummer. It makes me long for the days of watching Friends with... my friends in college.
