daily tasks update

So my daily task plan is going well. I have a solid morning routine of tidying the house (making the bed, cleaning out the sink) and have added a different cleaning task every day, to keep the house constantly clean instead of letting it build up and having to do a big clean. Every other day is the bathroom or sweeping/vacuuming or I tackle one room completely including dusting. Having two dogs does not create 2x hair and dust, it creates 200x more. I even bought a mini Bissell green machine to steam clean the stains on the couch. Wet dog paws make a mess!

I am also making great headway in my big project list. I get lots of little tasks done on the way to finishing a big one. There's been some unexpected projects landing in my lap, like a bunch of paperwork to get some checks from the leftover escrow funds and the home/flood insurance policies (since we sold the house in July but the policies were not closed until August). I also keep getting junk mail in my parents' name but now I let that pile in my to-do folder and call them all once a week.

I also got a huge assortment of insulators (from phone lines) and those are going to require a lot of work to prepare for sale. I had to buy a price guide book, and now have to do specialty cleaning on lots of them. They sell for a lot when they are in good shape so it's worth the effort, but it's not something I was expecting to have to do. And today I have a buy at a lady's house where I think I am getting a bunch of Jadeite dishes (also very popular with great prices) so that could turn out to add a bunch of new work to my list.

But the roofing estimates are coming up next on my Big Project list! We are getting there.

My husband got new glasses yesterday. They are clear frames around his eyes with darker arms. Honestly, they take 10 years off his face. I think he was surprised I liked them as much as I do; he was prepared for me to tease him. Nuh-unh, he looks hot in them!

Political comment: that Charlie Kirk video was horrible. It was all over my timeline on X in the minutes after it happened. (Yes, I am lurking on X again under a sockpuppet name.) What a terrible way to die, and in a way that your children could find online someday. I feel for them. Nobody deserves to die like that.

As for Kirk, I didn't really have an opinion of him before this except as one of the many right-wing shit-stirrers. But I did do some reading about his organization and his reach; no one is talking about it yet, but it seems to me it was all based on his personality and energy. A one-man show, if you will. So now that he is gone, I wonder if that influence he had encouraging young men to join the GOP will go away too. I know the right is all up in arms now and seem super-motivated, but I am talking long-term. I guess we will see.

I admire your cleaning schedule -- I am doing way more decluttering than cleaning right now, but the decluttering facilitates present and future cleaning, so that's still helpful. I've had a number of people suggest I get a dog, and while I would love one in theory, no way is my apartment in the kind of shape where I could keep one. Plus I totally believe the 200x number LOL.

My account on Xitter still exists because I don't want the name taken, but I finally stopped looking at it. The only thing I was doing was deleting posts, replies and likes, and Effing Elon has decided those only go back to 2021. I can't get to anything older and I started posting in 2008!. So screw him, which was actually helpful because I haven't seen the video. I heard it was indeed horrible.

ION, if I wanted to approach a vintage/antique seller to take some things to sell on consignment, do you have a suggestion about how I should do that?

I am doing decluttering too, but I always get the daily cleaning done first before I dive in. Most days.

Hmm, I guess I would first do some research, online and in person. First search for vintage/antique/consignment stores (3 different searches) in your area. Then look at the websites of each (if they have them, many do not) to see if they accept consignment or will buy from you directly.

Once you have your list of potentials, time to go antiquing! You have to see each space, and look at what they sell. Will your stuff fit in? If it does, then it is more likely that they will want it in their store. At that point, I would approach the front desk and ask them the process. They might have you email pics, or make an appointment, or whatever they do. We try to explain to people that buying from you is a side part of our job, and our main focus is selling to the customers. So usually our appointments are during our slow times, and we don't even take calls about selling on the weekends.

All of that is to enhance your likelihood of selling your items. If they do buy from you directly, expect that you will make much less than the "ebay value". Because they are taking on all the risk of now waiting to find a buyer, and they need to make a profit themselves.

That's super helpful, thank you! I'm still debating on which route to take with all this, but I wanted to know if there was a "third thing" in between selling it myself (as we've also previously discussed) and just giving it away. I need all the data I can get before deciding, as usual. ;-)

I am so curious about the insulators, since I had to google that to see what they were. Are people buying them as collector's items? Do they serve some kind of decorative function? Are they just pretty?

They are collector's items. Some people used to work for the phone/electric companies so they handled them for years. Others used to (and still do) walk the electric pole lines to find ones that have fallen off. I think that's some of the pleasure in it for many -- they can find them for free if they put in some leg work.

They come in sooooo many shapes and colors, and are gorgeous in the sun. Some of them were made with magnesium or other minerals in the glass, and their colors changed in the sun over time (the purple ones). I thought there were just a few types that I had seen in the store, but the collection I have now is shocking in its variety! I posted about it on IG/FB. (Can't figure out how to post pics here on DW.)

I don't know if you want to upload photos here instead of linking to photo elsewhere, but it's pretty easy to upload photos for entries. Even free accounts have image space. If you go to your profile page, select Organize from the menu at top, and select Manage Images, you can upload images. On your page of uploaded images there's an Image Embed html code to copy and paste into an entry.

Ohhh thank you, that is good to know! I am having trouble getting my laptop to stop downloading all my photos instead just grabbing what I want from the cloud, but once I figure that out I will start uploading pics here. I only do DW on my laptop, I like the old-school feel of sitting at a desk and journaling on a full keyboard.
